Sandoval County is geographically and culturally diverse. Continuously occupied for over 1000 years, it is home to 12 Indian reservations (2nd most of any US county), ancient Indian and Spanish villages, and home of Rio Rancho, NM the 3rd largest city in New Mexico and several smaller communities. Three National Forests share boundaries with Sandoval County. The Rio Grande and Jemez rivers flow through parts of the county. The Jemez Mountains, found in part of Sandoval County are a popular getaway destination for occupants of several counties. Great weather, great schools, low crime, low cost of living, and its being near a big city just add to the intrigue of the county.
Whereas Rio Rancho is a fast growing community, big city life is not for every one. Many small communities like Cuba, Placitas, Corrales, Bernallio, Jemez Springs, Regina and a few others are popular home and vacation destination. This section is dedicated to those properties in the smaller communities.
For those avid fishermen, north of Cuba, the San Pedro Parks Wilderness is home to native cutthroat trout. On the Jemez Pueblo are Holy Ghost and Dragonfly Reservoirs. Fenton Lake offers picnic areas, wheelchair accessible platforms and even ice fishing in the winter. San Antonio Creek in San Antonio Canyon offers plenty of catch-and-release fishing opportunities. Fly-fishing enthusiasts will be delighted by the Rio Cebolla in the Jemez Mountains. Within 25 minutes north of Regina are three of New Mexico's best fishing and boating lakes (El Vado, Heron, and Abiquiu)in neighboring Rio Arriba County
